Turkish Breakfast

Turkish BreakfastThe Turkish cuisine is a fine blend of Middle Eastern, Balkan and Central Asian cuisines. Although there are specialties that can be found all over the country, there are also dishes that are specific of a region. A good example would be the kebabs and mezes that are from the south-eastern part which consists of Adan. Urfa and Gaziantep.

A Turkish breakfast is perhaps one of the best and most appetizing breakfasts in the world. It is usually composed of cheese, such as kasar and beyaz peynir, tomatoes, butter, olives, cucumbers, green peppers, eggs, and a jam or marmalade called recel which is actually a preserve made of whole fruits.

Honey is also a staple of a Turkish breakfast. In Breakfast with Venus, it is noted that soups can be a morning meal, as well as borek, pastirma, simit, pogaca and sucuk, a kind of spicy traditional sausage. Traditional breaks can also be served as breakfast, such as pide, a crusty loaf which is white in colour.

An example of traditional Turkish specialty commonly served for breakfast is menemen, a dish prepared with the use of roasted tomatoes, olive oil, eggs and peppers. Moreover, breakfast can never be complete with the iconic Turkish Tea. Breakfast with Venus also enumerates some common variations of this type of breakfast.

Turkish breakfast, aside from continental breakfast, is also served in hotels, especially in the upscale ones. ‘Kahvali’ is the Turkish term used to refer to breakfast. Translated, it means ‘before coffee.’
